TE HITORI O NGA TAI WHAKARONGORUA MARAE
The marae land site has whakapapa to Te Uri o Hau, through the tūpuna Haumoewharangi.
Tinopai was originally known as ‘Te Kōmiti’. The name Ngā Tai Whakarongorua is a reference to reconciliation. Others also understand this to be about the location, where the Wairoa River meets the Kaipara.
This marae has very deep spiritual beginnings with its foundations in the

MARAE LOGO
In December 2024, an invitation was extended to all marae beneficiaries to submit ideas for our new logo - to support our new project initiatives including branding. E mihi ana ki a Cassidy Makiha (Te Uri o Hau, Ngati Whatua). Cassidy’s design was selected as the Nga Tai Whakarongorua marae logo. E ai kia Cassidy: The concept of this design aims to visualise ‘Nga Tai Whakarongorua’ while acknowledging the kaitiaki of our whenua and our moana. The design showcases the two main arteries, Arapaoa and Northern Wairoa, that connect to te manawa o te Kaipara.
